OVERVIEW

Pensumo, a digital service from Ibercaja Bank, links users' savings with their retirement through purchases at partner stores, discounts, and regular contributions. It allows purchases to translate into Pension Plan savings without changing consumption habits.

The website is crucial for attracting new customers and businesses, but it lacks key features for a proper user experience and app downloads. Main issues included:

  • Lack of content hierarchy.

  • Difficulty in registering as a merchant or downloading the app.

  • Outdated visual design.

Simultaneously, we prioritized revising screens in the existing app design.

Client introduction

My role

As a UX Designer, I designed website components and layouts and led the app redesign, implementing a new design system aligned with Pensumo's branding.

Integrating Pensumo’s branding elements with the web requirements

After identifying their goals of engaging users through their website, I designed a cohesive visual system directly, bypassing the wireframes phase due to time constraints. The system features a modern visual style aligned with current trends, ensuring ease of interaction for users while maintaining a strong brand identity.

Conducting a preliminary investigation on the application and implementing enhancements to the user flow and design

Due to a shift in project scope, we undertook a comprehensive redesign of the app. This involved not only visual adjustments but also operational enhancements, as new features were introduced and existing ones were retired. My primary objective was to analyze the updated functionality and identify the core user requirements.

During this phase, the new app features were concurrently developed alongside prototyping. Because of time constraints, adjustments had to be made based on the available resources.

Analyze each existing task flow and visual analysis of the interface

In a later, calmer phase of the project I was able to analyze task flows to understand in detail the whole path of the app and to be able to identify possible problems or errors that users could experience.
At the same time, I had to make sure the cohesion of the components and a consistent line of the app as well as confirming proper accessibility and usability.

Market research to identify improvements

As the app redesign progressed, new visual styling needs arose. So I conducted a market analysis to contrast the visual patterns and trends of other companies with similar initiatives.
After identifying common patterns and potential issues that signal areas for improvement, conducting a competitive analysis becomes essential. By examining how top-ranked competitors have implemented similar user flows and addressed the identified problems, we can gain valuable insights. This process allows us to explore heuristic solutions and adapt relevant ideas from other competitors.

About this project experience...

Work Team

As the sole UX Designer, I collaborated with the Full-Stack and Front-End development team to build and deploy the app and website. We used agile methodology with Azure DevOps, holding daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. I also had daily check-ins with the marketing team to align on tasks and blockers, and met with the customer in person to better understand their requirements.

Project challenges

Initially, the goal was to redesign Pensumo’s microsite for better user engagement. However, the client’s shifting focus aimed at creating a unique version of the app to stand out from competitors. Frequent changes made systematic design difficult with urgent Sprint deliveries. Despite ambiguity, we approached the requirements iteratively. I adapted to the client’s disorganization, setting boundaries while allowing space for critical app needs to be reorganized.
