OVERVIEW

Astara, formerly Berge Auto, offers mobility solutions, from car distribution to data intelligence.

This project focused on creating dashboards for key departments, including customer intelligence and sales.

Monthly data is extracted from Azure SQL, stored in Financial_BPC and Marketing tables, and processed into a model for analysis and visualization.

Client introduction

My role

During the project, as a UX designer, I meticulously crafted Power BI templates in Figma. These templates were then seamlessly imported into Power BI to create and refine the dashboards.

Conducted comprehensive research to define project objectives

I analyzed project requirements by aligning objectives, key KPIs, and the specific needs of Astara’s employees. This involved identifying key KPIs such as service punctuality, vehicle occupancy, fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions to address employee pain points. The dashboards were designed to reflect Astara’s branding while avoiding information and cognitive overload. Additionally, I ensured that the dashboards were optimized for various devices, with a particular focus on tablet use, creating a simple and ergonomic interface.

Creation of template components and Power BI elements

In the next instance I had to create and structured Power BI components to facilitate the systematic creation of templates. To achieve this, I replicated Power BI’s graphical elements—such as titles, dropdowns, and graphics—while also creating custom dashboard menus branded with Astara’s identity.

Evaluate the ease of use and intuitiveness of the design

We conducted task-based user testing, observing and recording user interactions to identify pain points. In parallel, we ran A/B testing with two scorecard versions to determine which provided better usability, with one version emerging as the more effective. Additionally, we ensured compliance with accessibility standards, focusing on appropriate font sizes, color contrast, and ratios´.

Improvement proposals for dashboards

To enhance clarity and reduce cognitive load, we simplified the command boxes by minimizing visual elements. We also introduced a new bar chart style, which improved both usability and visual appeal, creating a more dynamic presentation of KPIs.

About this project experience...

Work Team

I worked closely with the data analytics team to understand Power BI's technical constraints, ensuring a feasible and optimized design. While not an expert in Power BI, the team supported me in exploring its features, leading to a more effective design approach.

Project challenges

A key challenge was adapting the desktop designs for tablet use, as requested by the client, which required additional internal testing and slightly delayed the timeline. Additionally, the client wanted a more colorful dashboard, which posed functional and cognitive load challenges. I balanced these demands with accessibility standards, creating design solutions that met both aesthetic and usability needs.
